Let This Mind Be In You (Philippians 2)
Exhorting Christians at Philippi to unity, Paul urges them to have the mind of Christ who was a great example of:
- Humility (v6-8)
- Equal with God, yet humbled Himself to come to earth for us (John 1:1, 14, 29; 2 Cor. 8:9).
- Though a master, He became a servant and an exam-ple (Lk. 19:10; John 13:12-17; Mark 9:35; Matt. 20:26-28).
- He did all this willingly (John 10:17-18).
- Obedience (v8)
- Constantly sought to do the Father’s will (John 4:34, 8:29; Matt. 26:39, 42).
- Showed a great example of what obedience really means (Acts 1:1; 1 John 3:18; Rom. 16:17; Heb. 5:9; Luke 6:46; Matt. 7:21-23; James 4:6-10; 1 Cor. 1:11).
- Love (v2-4)
- Paul is using Christ as an example of one that loved and put others first; in this example we are reminded that Christ did this for us (Rom. 5:8; John 10:11).
- Will we now love in the same manner (John 13:34)?
We have a perfect example in Christ (1 Peter 2:21-24), the One who has now been exalted by God (Acts 2:33, 36).
Will we submit to Him before it is too late (Rom 14:10-12)?
