God’s Guidance (Numbers 9:15-23) As Israel was led by the pillar of cloud and fire in the wilderness, so we are to be led by God today. |
God’s Guidance (Numbers 9:15-23)
As Israel prepares to leave Mount Sinai, they are reminded that they don’t face their journey alone. God will be with them all the way as represented by the cloud by day and the fire by night. This should serve as a constant reminder of:
- God’s Care
- He had not left them alone at any time, they could al-ways look and see this reminder (v16; Num. 14:14).
- But neither has He left us alone (1 Pet. 3:12, 5:6-7; Heb. 13:5-6; Ps. 139); no matter the difficulties we face in life, we don’t have to question the faithfulness of God.
- God’s Direction
- Not just was He with, He was guiding them. He was re-minding them He was the leader of His people and they were not to rely on human wisdom.
- Even so today we are not left without instruction (Matt. 17:5; Heb. 1:1-2, 2:1-4); just as they were to follow God’s instructions, so are we (Col. 3:17; John 12:48; 1 John 3:4; 2 John 1:9); we do so by turning to His guide-book, the Bible (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
- God’s Expectation
- The cloud/fire was not just there as a suggestion. God expected them to watch it and to follow it.
- We too must remember that God’s Word is more than a suggestion book. We are to watch/stay in readiness (Mark 13:32-37; 1 Thess. 5:1-6) and go/stop as He commands (Matt. 7:21-24; Rev. 22:14).
