Psalm 23: The Lord Is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want
This morning we begin a series looking at this great, well-known Psalm, digging deeper into its great treasures starting in verse 1:
- A Statement of Amazement & Pride—God, my Shepherd!
- He is creator of all (Psalm 8; Acts 17:24-28)
- He sought me out (Isa. 53:6; Rom. 5:8; John 3:16; 10:10-11; Lk 19:10; 2 Cor. 5:17-21; 1 Pet. 1:18-19; 2 Pet. 3:9; 1 Tim. 2:4)
- He cares for me (1 Pet. 5:6-7; Matt. 6:31-33; 10:29-31; 1 Pet. 2:5, 9).
- A Statement of Humility—I Will Follow Him
- I must humble myself to His Will (Matt. 5:3ff; 11:28-30; Lk 9:23).
- His sheep are those that follow Him (John 10:3-4; Lk. 6:46; Heb. 5:8-9; Matt. 7:21ff; James 1:22).
- A Statement of Contentedness—I am content
- Not a guarantee of having everything we could ever want; but a conscious decision to be content (2 John 2:15-17).
- One who trusts His shepherd, knowing he will be well cared for, and being able to be content in all situations. (Phil. 4:11-13; 2 Tim. 1:12-13; 2:3-5; Heb. 13:5-6).
- He is able to say—this is right where I want to be!
