Jesus: Lion, Lamb, and Savior (Revelation 5) Consider the pictures of Jesus that we see in Revelation 5 and the importance of each. |
Jesus: Lion, Lamb, and Savior (Revelation 5)
- A Lion (v1-5)
- A scroll is in the right hand of God which no one can open, a fact that grieves John.
- But One is worthy – the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Heb. 7:14; Gen. 49:9-10); this image reminds us of regal authority, power, victory – speaks of the divine nature and power of Christ who conquered over sin and death (Acts 2:23; Heb. 1:3; 1 Cor. 15:20, 57).
- A Lamb (v6-10) – that lion is now seen as a lamb
- When he looks John sees a small lamb (a reminder of meekness, compassion, and sacrifice).
- This lamb had been slain (sacrificed – 1 Pet. 1:18-19, 2:24) but was standing (alive again and forever – Matt .28:5-6; Acts 2:32; Rom. 1:4; Rev. 1:18).
- He was infinite in power (7 horns; Matt. 28:18), wisdom and knowledge (7 eyes; Heb. 4:13), presence (7 spirits; Ps. 139:7), and goodness (Heb. 2:9; John 10:15,18).
- He is praised for His work in purchasing a people unto God that was open unto all (Acts 20:28; 1 Pet. 2:5); Matt. 11:28; Mark 16:15-16; Rev. 22:17).
- A Savior (v11-14)-the Lion/Lamb is the Savior of the World
- Now all things around the throne of God and all things in heaven and earth praise the lamb.
- Surely for all He has done in the redemption of mankind but also all He would do in the events to come, ending in the salvation of those in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Eph. 1:7; Rev. 7:13-14; Rev. 21:27).
“…Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29)
