Life’s Lessons: Learning From Japan

  1. Uncertainty of Life:
    1. Problems of life, even death, will come, often unexpectedly (Job 14:1; Matt. 5:25, 27; James 1:2; 4;14).
    2. Such reminds us of the need to use time wisely (Ps. 90:12; Eph 5:15-16; 2 Cor. 5:10).
  2. Certainty of God:
    1. God Is! He created the world and continues to rule over it (Rev. 1:8; Gen. 1:1; Mark 4:41; Ps. 46:1-3, 10).
    2. His promises still stand and there are greater things for His people (Matt. 24:36-37, 41; 1 Pet. 5:7; Heb. 13:5; 2 Cor. 5:1; Matt. 6:20; Matt. 11:28).
  3. Weakness of Man:
    1. Our wisdom and works are not match for God (Obad. 3-4; Jer. 7:4, 14; 2 Pet. 3:10-12; etc.)
    2. Should remind us to trust in God, not ourselves (Jer. 10:23; 9:23-24; 1Cor. 1:20-2:2).
  4. Sacrificial Love
    1. We are reminded of the needs others face (Matt. 14:14; John 13:34; James 2:16).
    2. We also see selfless love shown to others that some would give their lives for others; a reminder of the great sacrifice of Christ (John 15:13, 13:34; Eph. 5:25; Phil. 2:3-5; Rom. 5:8-10;John 15:14; 1 John 5:3; Gal. 2:20)
