Occasions of Sin
- When we violate our conscience (Romans 14:23).
- An action done without conviction of its approval by God.
- If we do so we show a disregard for God‘s Will (Col. 3:17).
- Remember the conscience must be trained by God‘s Will (Acts 24;16; John 16:2; 1 Tim. 4:2; Heb. 10:22).
- When we know to do good, and do it not (James 4:17).
- Can‘t simply refrain from doing wrong.
- When we know right, we have an obligation to do it (Luke 12:47-48; John 13:17, 15:22; Luke 6:46; Eze. 3:17-19).
- When we violate God’s law (1 John 3:4).
- That which is against the law; lawlessness; going against, doing that which is contrary to God‘s law (examples: doing those things in 1 Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:17-21, etc.).
- Expresses a refusal to be governed by God‘s law; sets our will against God‘s (contrast Matt. 26:39, 42 – ?thy will be done?).
- When we fail to keep God’s law (1 John 5:17).
- Similar to 1 John 3:4; but while it addresses doing what God forbids, this address leaving off what God commands. It is doing that which is unrighteous, the opposite of 1 John 3:7.
- We have to be doers of that which is good (James 1:22; Eph. 2:10; Titus 2:14; Acts 1:1, 10:38; Luke 11:24-25).
- The lost pictured in Matthew 25 were those who failed to do what they ought.
