If God is For Us…

By Kevin Hahn

Sometimes I’d feel sorry for the bad guys in Saturday morning cartoons. Not too sorry (‘cause they were the bad guys), but sorry that they were always getting beat up by their own traps.

The rocks always fell on their heads. The bombs always exploded in their hands. The guns always shot backwards and blackened their faces.

But I guess that was the point. Bad guys reap what they sow. Good guys come out on top no matter how much the bad guys try to prevent it.

Some might say, “Yeah, that’s fine for cartoons, but this is the real world. Good doesn’t always triumph over evil.”

If you feel that way, I think you’re confusing winning the battle with winning the war. Read what God says:

“The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord laughs at him, for He sees his day is coming.” (Ps. 37:12-13)

God doesn’t seem too worried about victory, does He? He laughs in the face of the wicked.

“The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bow to cast down the afflicted and needy, to slay those who are upright in conduct.” (vs. 14)

Don’t think for a moment that right living will keep you from persecution, criticism, and attacks. Do right, and you will have a target on your chest. But you won’t be the one struck by the fatal blow.

“Their sword will enter their own heart, and their bows will be broken.” (vs. 15) We serve a God of victory. Obey Him, honor Him, seek Him, and fear not. He will not fail us.
